Small and Medium Business Services

The right fit makes all the difference.

Finding the right accounting firm is a lot like finding the right pair of hiking boots. When the fit is right, you stop thinking about your feet and start covering ground.

Most growing businesses start with a bookkeeper and a tax preparer, and at the beginning that works well. Then revenue grows, the entity structure gets more complicated, and compliance needs to continue to grow. The books stop closing on time, and the tax conversation still happens once a year in March, when it's too late to change anything. Nobody made a bad decision. The business simply outgrew the original arrangement.

You may know exactly what isn't working and lack the time to fix it, or you may sense something is off without knowing where. Either way, we can help. We work with privately held companies across Utah and beyond, generally from a few million to hundreds of millions in revenue.

What Usually Prompts the Call

The books are behind or unreliable. The bookkeeper left, the reconciliations stopped, or the financial statements don't match what you know is happening in the business.

The tax bill was a surprise. That almost always means the planning conversation happened too late, or never happened at all.

A lender or investor wants reviewed or audited statements. And nobody on your team has been through the process before.

The company is growing faster than the reporting. Revenue is up, margins are unclear, and cash is tight despite profitability.

A sale, acquisition, or partner change is coming. Clean records and a defensible valuation suddenly become urgent.

You started doing business in other states. Nexus often gets created without anyone noticing, which raises both income and sales tax exposure.

Why Growing Utah Businesses Choose Larson

A founding promise we still keep. When Dennis Larson founded Larson & Company in 1975, he set out to build a firm that serves clients as partners and advocates, not just another service provider. Fifty years later, that is still how we work.

Specialist discipline, applied to your business. Our work in insurance, government, and other highly regulated industries sets a high bar for documentation and review, and every client benefits from it. When your business does something complex, such as an unusual contract, an equity arrangement, a multi-entity structure, or a new accounting standard, we have likely handled something similar before.

The whole firm behind you. Accounting, tax, audit, advisory, IT assurance, and wealth management all sit under one roof. Our team can see what your accounting team sees, and your next big decision gets input from every side.

A team that stays. You work with partner on a consistent basis who knows your business year after year. Utah Business has rated us one of Utah’s Best Places to Work For in 2023, 2024 and 2025, Utah Valley Magazine named Larson a 2026 Best Place to Work, and that continuity shows up in your service.

Independent and rooted in Utah. Partners who live and work here make decisions about your engagement. We have offices in South Jordan, Spanish Fork, and Moab.

Recognized for the work. Our recent recognition includes:

  • Accounting Today 2026 Regional Leader
  • IPA Top 300 and Fastest Growing Firms
  • Forbes' list of top CPA firms
  • Utah Valley Magazine's #1 Best Accounting Firm for 2026

What Working With Larson Is Like

It starts with a conversation. We ask what's working, what isn't, and what decision is coming. That tells us where to start, and it isn't always where you expected.

Fees in writing up front. Scope, deliverables, and fees are agreed before work begins. Recurring work is quoted as a monthly or annual amount, so you always know what you'll pay.

Planning during the year. Tax and audit planning conversations happen in the second half of the year, while they can still change the outcome. Clients who switch to us tell us this makes the biggest difference.

Start where it makes sense. Many clients begin with tax or a single project and add services as the business grows.

Secure and easy to work with. Documents move through secure portals with e-signature, and your team always knows who to call. A hallmark of our service is understanding the value in making the process as simple as possible.

Small Business FAQs

Group 247-1

Is our business the right size for Larson?

We work with businesses at many stages, from growing startups to established companies with complex structures. We will tell you which services you need now and tailor the work to fit.

Group -3

How much does this cost?

Tax work is quoted by entity and complexity. Outsourced accounting is a monthly fee based on volume and service level. Audit work is quoted by project based on the scope. You get numbers before you commit.

Group -9

Can you work with our current bookkeeper?

Often that's the best arrangement. Your bookkeeper handles daily transactions, and we provide tax, audit, advisory and any supplementary accounting services that are needed.

Group -6

Do we have to switch everything at once?

No. Many clients start with one service and expand from there.

Group -6

Is it hard to switch CPA firms?

It's routine. We request your prior tax returns, audits, and accounting records, review them for missed opportunities and open items, and take it from there.

Group -6

How fast can you start?

Tax and advisory work typically begins within a few weeks. Planning and coordination for audit services can begin immediately. Outsourced accounting can begin even if cleanup is needed.
