Industries We Serve

We chose these industries by design, and we have continually invested in them for over fifty years.

Each industry team below stays involved in its industry beyond client work: presenting at conferences, sitting on planning committees, writing for industry publications, and hosting events. Our insurance team attends IASA. CICA membership covers our captive practice, along with the state captive associations in Utah, Vermont, Arizona, Texas, and North Carolina. The benefit plan audit group are members of the AICPA’s EBPAQC. Our government group attends GFOA and presents at Utah city and county conferences.

We also host free CPE industry-specific audit and tax training for our clients' in-house CPAs once or twice a year, at no charge. A client who understands the standards as well as we do makes for a better working relationship on both sides.

Tourism and Hospitality

Lodging, outfitters, restaurants, and seasonal operators.

Our Moab office sits in the middle of one of the most seasonal economies in the country, which taught us how to work with businesses that make most of their revenue in a handful of months. That means cash flow planning built around the season, sales tax compliance across jurisdictions, and reporting that tracks alongside the financials.

Common services include: outsourced accounting, tax planning and compliance, cash flow forecasting, and reviews and compilations.

Small and Medium Business

Serving privately held companies, professional practices, construction, manufacturing, and services.

Owners in this category usually need three things: accurate books they can trust, a tax position that saves you money, and someone to call before a decision instead of after it. We build the engagement around your unique needs, and we scale up as the company grows.

Common services include: outsourced accounting and controller support, business and owner tax planning, audits, reviews and compilations, growth advisory, and succession planning.

Employee Benefit Plans and 401(k)

Serving plan sponsors and pooled employer plan providers nationwide.

When an employee benefit plan reaches the participant threshold requiring an audit, compliance becomes more than a filing obligation, it becomes another fiduciary responsibility. The U.S. Department of Labor (DOL) can reject deficient audits, and the responsibility ultimately rests with the plan sponsor. We are a leading provider of employee benefit plan audits, performing a high volume of 401(k), 403(b), ESOP, and Health and Welfare ERISA plan audits each year. Both the AICPA and the DOL recognize auditor specialization and audit volume as key indicators of audit quality.

Common services Include: 401(k) Plan Audits, 403(b) Plan Audits, Health and Welfare ERISA Plan Audits, DOL Cybersecurity Readiness Assessments for Plan Fiduciaries, Internal Control and Operational Compliance Reviews.

Nonprofit

Serving charities, foundations, associations, religious organizations, and social service agencies.

Nonprofit accounting carries requirements that for-profit entities never encounter: net asset classification, donor restrictions, functional expense allocation, in-kind contribution valuation, and, for organizations spending federal awards above the threshold, a single audit under the Uniform Guidance. Add Form 990 as a public document that donors and watchdog groups actually read, and the stakes go beyond compliance.

Common services include: financial statement audit, single audit, Form 990 and 990-T preparation, outsourced accounting, accounting services, and board and governance advisory.

Government

Serving cities, counties, special service districts, territories, public authorities, charter schools, public infrastructure districts (PIDs), infrastructure financing districts (IFDs), and municipal entities.

Government audits run under Government Auditing Standards, commonly called the Yellow Book, with GASB reporting on top and often a single audit alongside it. Deadlines are statutory, the report goes to a governing body in a public meeting, and the state auditor or cognizant oversight agency may review the work. We schedule government engagements around the fiscal year end calendar so the report lands when the entity needs it.

Common services include: Yellow Book audit, single audit or program specific audits, GASB implementation support, agreed upon procedures, performance audits, and fraud risk assessment.

Dealerships

Serving auto, RV, powersports, and equipment dealers.

Dealership accounting has its own vocabulary: floor plan interest, LIFO reserves, factory statements, contracts in transit, F&I income recognition, and department level gross. Most dealers need tax planning and clean monthly reporting, often an audit, and a review or compilation their floor plan lender requires. We can handle all three.

Common services include: tax preparation, reviews and compilations, LIFO analysis, cost segregation, financial statement audits, entity structuring, and owner tax planning.

Why industry specialization changes the outcome

Fewer questions and shorter engagements. A team that already understands your chart of accounts, your regulatory filings, and your revenue cycle asks fewer basic questions. Requests are more targeted and fieldwork is shorter.

Issues surface before they become findings. When a firm sees the same industry constantly, it recognizes a developing problem in your numbers from pattern rather than from a checklist. That gives you time to fix it before it appears in a report.

Advice that reflects your actual constraints. Generic tax planning suggests strategies that do not apply to a captive, a dealership owner, or a nonprofit. Industry specific advice starts from what your entity type is allowed to do.

Working with us from anywhere

We are headquartered in Utah with offices in Salt Lake City, Spanish Fork, and Moab, and we serve clients in nearly every state. Insurance, captives, and SOC work are national by nature, and we work with a large share of our clients remotely. Fieldwork runs remotely with secure document exchange, and we travel on site when the engagement requires it.
