Insurance Company Audit
We audit insurance entities year-round and are here to help navigate industry changes
We Provide Statutory Audits for All Types of Carriers
Licensed property and casualty carriers, life and health carriers, reinsurers, and health insurance organizations filing audited statutory financial statements with a state department of insurance.
Managing general agents, third party administrators, and program administrators whose contracts or carriers require audited financial statements.
Key Audit Concerns for Insurers
Loss and loss adjustment expense reserves. The largest estimate on the balance sheet. We coordinate with your appointed actuary rather than duplicating the reserve analysis. We evaluate the reasonableness of the assumptions and the completeness and accuracy of the claims data feeding the analysis.
Reinsurance. Whether risk transfer is genuine, whether ceded balances are collectible, whether collateral is adequate, and whether the accounting matches the contract.
Premium and unearned premium. Recognition, cut off, and the reconciliation between the policy administration system and the ledger. Multiple policy administrators can make this more challenging.
Investments. Valuation, impairment evaluation, and NAIC designation for the portfolio.
Admitted asset determination. Non-admitted assets reduce surplus directly, so misclassification moves the number regulators watch most.
Related party transactions. Intercompany agreements, management fees, and pooling arrangements.

Insurance Audit FAQs
Can you take a first year engagement?
Yes. We contact the predecessor firm, review prior workpapers, and manage the transition. First year engagements require additional communication and time as we get things set up, but that effort sets up future success.
Do you use our actuary’s work?
Yes. We evaluate the actuary's work and the data supporting it. We do not require you to change actuaries.
Do you help with adjustments from statutory accounting to GAAP reporting?
Yes. For non-attest clients reporting under both frameworks, whether for a parent, a lender, or a transaction we are able to help prepare and review those adjustments.
Do you help with department examinations?
Yes, both preparation of workpapers and response to questions.
Do you audit carriers outside of Utah?
Yes. Statutory reporting is consistent enough across states that experience matters more than geography, and most of our clients are comfortable with our remote work protocols.
